What is a diamond?

A diamond is a gemstone composed of carbon crystals formed under high pressure and temperature at a depth of 150 to 200 kilometers below the earth's surface. Through volcanic eruptions, diamonds find their way to the surface. Once at the surface, diamonds are found in the volcanic rock and this is still a very complicated process to this day. To find one gram of rough diamond, an average of 6 tons of rough rock must be processed. Of the diamonds found, about 20% are suitable to be worked into jewelry.
